CargoBeamer operates lane between Kaldenkirchen and Perpignan
New route starting in January 2022
The logistics service provider CargoBeamer is expanding its intermodal network from the beginning of next year. Between Kaldenkirchen in Germany and Perpignan near the French-Spanish border, goods will be transported environmentally friendly by rail from January 10, 2022. The patented CargoBeamer system enables all kinds of semitrailers, containers, P400 trailers, refrigerated and tank trailers, and other types of goods to be transported by train without requiring any additional conversions for forwarders.
At the start in January, initially three trains will run weekly in each direction. From mid-February, the frequency will increase permanently to five round trips per week. CargoBeamer will collaborate with DB Cargo France (formerly Euro Cargo Rail) as its traction partner. The new Franco-German route is the company's sixth connection overall, with five of the six lines having been added to the network in the past six months.
Strengthening established hubs in Germany and France
CargoBeamer is already active at both locations with further routes. From Kaldenkirchen, the company's first connection to Domodossola has been operated since 2015, with the economically strong region in western Germany and proximity to the Belgian and Dutch markets ensuring consistently high utilization rates. In Perpignan in southern France, CargoBeamer has been operating a route to Calais near the English Channel since summer 2021. In addition, there are numerous opportunities for onward maritime transport from Perpignan as well as the extension of transport routes to Spain.
Matthias Schadler, Managing Director of CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH, says: "Having already greatly expanded our network this year, we are delighted to be able to offer our customers the next attractive line from January 2022. With the expansion of the service in Perpignan, we not only serve the southern French market, but also position ourselves in the direction of northern Spain with the strong transport region around Barcelona. Furthermore, the addition of another route is also an important step forward for the location of Kaldenkirchen, where we plan to start constructing our own transshipment terminal soon."
The CargoBeamer Group is a logistics service provider in the “combined transportation road-rail segment” based in Leipzig, Germany. Thanks to the company's technology of railcars, handling terminals and logistics software nearly all standard semi-trailers of all types can use the train – without additional conversions and reinforcements for the trailer and even without a driver and tractor unit. CargoBeamer trains currently run on six different routes including locations in Germany, France, Italy, Poland, and the UK. In the medium-term CargoBeamer will realize a European route-network of high-performing and innovative transhipment facilities at important transport hubs. This will secure sustainable rail-transport for hundreds of thousands of semi-trailers per year – reducing CO2-emissions and relieving environment and society.
