CargoBeamer expands three routes in Germany, Italy, and France
New frequencies strengthen reliability and non-craneable capacities on multiple European corridors
CargoBeamer, a fast-growing operator of an intermodal network for transporting semi-trailers by rail, has expanded three of its connections. The centerpiece of the expansion is CargoBeamer’s Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola service, the company’s first high-frequency connection. The number of trains operated on this route was increased to 22 weekly roundtrips, which makes it one of the most frequent intermodal rail connections in Europe. In parallel, the number of trains operated on the domestic French route connecting Calais and Perpignan has grown to 8 weekly roundtrips, and the service between Stuttgart and Milan was increased to 5 weekly roundtrips.
Offering in France doubled in less than six months
All frequency expansions were made in recent weeks and are already in operation. On Calais – Perpignan, the expansion to eight weekly roundtrips is the second upgrade to the route in 2026. CargoBeamer has doubled its offering in France in less than six months, which is a strong testament to the significant demand for scalable, reliable intermodal connections that are open to transporting both craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers. CargoBeamer aims to further expand its connection in France to a double-daily departure schedule, further increasing the attractiveness for time-sensitive goods.
A third expansion was made to the service connecting Kornwestheim near Stuttgart with the hub area of Milan. Launched in April 2026 as CargoBeamer's successor to the discontinued Rolling Highway service, the route offers new capacities for transporting non-craneable units in response to strong customer demand from the Stuttgart area. The route now offers five weekly roundtrips, up from four, providing daily weekday departures between the two important logistics regions.
“We believe that high-frequency routes are the key to unlocking the full potential of intermodal transport and have therefore increased the frequencies on three of our routes,” says Tilman Apitzsch, CCO of CargoBeamer. “The more often a train runs on a given connection, the more it strengthens the reliability and schedule attractiveness of our routes, providing an even stronger offering for time-sensitive supply chains. With the two expanded CargoBeamer terminals in Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola going live in 2027, we are excited to drastically increase the frequency on Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola again.”
